Personal Strategy for Writers - $5,000

Earn high school credit while growing a professional portfolio of published work

This course provides writers with a personalized strategy a professional-level foundation for editors and writers. Using a wide variety of texts, students practice analyzing, editing, and revising the writing of others while receiving mentorship in professional communication techniques employed by professional editors and writers.

Course Goals

Think like a writer

  • Study advanced composition, editing, and revision skills of professionals

  • Explore professional editing tools and techniques

  • Analyze a variety of forms and voices to evaluate strengths and revise in ways that boost meaning

  • Understand the professional aspects of your call to write

  • Get supportive input that helps you successfully transition to professional writing

  • Be encouraged to understand your call to write as a call to fulfill Colossians 3:23

  • Add to a professional portfolio, research your niche & target audience, and continue studying the legalities of copyright and contracts

Learn by Doing

  • Understand the how writing and composition elements inform editing processes

  • Study editing and revision processes by doing them

  • Practice helping writers understand how literary devices advance theme

  • Write short, creative pieces that apply skills studied

  • Participate in weekly, live workshops

  • Experience the relationship between writers and editors by filling both roles to develop pieces of publishing quality

  • Nurture collaborative connections with other Christian creatives

  • Write informal literary responses

  • Draft & revise a well-researched creative piece or presentation script with feedback from instructor

  • Work with peers & Editor in Chief to prepare the piece for submission for publication by Anistemi Publishing

  • Build high-quality portfolio of published work by adding this piece to your portfolio

  • OPTIONAL PUBLICATION COMPETITION: Practice using manuscript guidelines to prepare and submit a short creative piece for publication & promotion through Anistemi Publishing.
